18 C. Very Fine Indo Malay Dagger with Kris Blade.

FRASER JAMES BAILLIE, 15th laird of Reelig (1783-1856), was a traveler, painter and writer. His extensive travels in India Persia and the Ottoman empire resulted in multitude of water colors and travel books, and also a collection of art artifacts from these regions including arms and armor items.
From this collection comes this extremely rare 18 C. Indo Malay dagger , a special order of a very fine Kris blade early 18 C. with a specially made Indian style handle and scabbard.
The Kris blade, Probably a Sumatra Kris with a very fine high quality pamor forging of clear high contrast pattern. The waisted wood handle decorated with gadrooned panels is typical of North India daggers. The wood scabbard covered with green velvet (Faded) is mounted with large, beautifully executed gilded copper locket and chape.
Blade 14 inches. Total 22 inches. Very good condition. Very minor blackened spots on the blade. The pommel top cover is missing.
