The Mangbetu people reside  live in north east Congo and were famous for their high quality art and craft especially musical instruments and weapon. The Mangbetu people use a dagger of classical shape, short, double edged symmetrical blade with wood or ivory handle, sometimes with figurative shape. These daggers are also known as Sape and used for both general work and self defense.

The blade of the  dagger offered here is hand forged, pierced and double edged with shaped bolster. Carved Ivory handles with good age patina. Blade  8 inches, total length 11 inches. Very good condition. No scabbard. Early 20th century.
