The “Korambi” Also known as “Korambit” and/or “Lawi Ayam”is a small crescent shaped knife with heavy blade and short handle that continue the curvature of the blade. Common in Sumatra but also found in Java and Sulawesi. The blade is sharpened on the inner side of the curvature and the handle isĀ characterized by the hole in the pommel for the index finger to allow better grip. The Korambi is held with the blade pointing upward to allow an upward strike. The exemplar shown here is 9 inches long with a thick 6 1/2 inches good pamor blade. Wood handle and polished wood scabbard with ivory tip. Very good condition. Sumatra, late 19C.
