Very Fine Yemenite Thouma Jambiya Dagger

The Yemenite Jambiya style Thouma is worn by the highest ranking people in the Yemenite society: Imams, Judges, Scholars and other aristocratic people.  The Thouma daggers are  therefore made by leading silversmiths and are rich in decorations. The Thouma is characterized by the wide blades, large I shaped handle and wide belt with silver attachments.

The exemplar shown below is a very fine one.  Massive blade, typical horn grip decorated with steel nails and mounted with imitation brass coins. The scabbard is of extremely high level workmanship. Gilded silver very delicate  filigree work. Heavy belt with gilded threads and all gilded silver mounts with the same level filigree work.

Blade is 9  inches long 3 inches wide. Length of the fully extended belt is 41 inches. very good plus condition. Fine Authentic thouma Jambiya of the highest level workmanship. Second half of the 20th C.
