Kutch district lies in Western India in Gujarat, on the shores of the Arabian sea. Swords from Kutch are outstanding in their decoration: Gilded handles and mounts with zoomorphic pommels, horses, lions etc., set with many colored stones and gilded scabbard mounts with chased floral design.
The fine shamshir sword shown here is of classical Kutch design: Gilded handle with horse head pommel set with colored stones. Scabbard with red velvet and chased and gilded mounts. Blade of watered steel(Wootz) . Blade length 31 inches. Total length 36 inches. Very good condition.
