This Filipino dagger is from the period of the Philippines revolution (The American Philippines war 1899-1901). European stiletto style dagger, influenced by the long Spanish occupation. The blade is very finely forged and engraved:
“Libertado Republica do Filipinas Ygualdad G.M” on one face
and “Vigan 1899”, A faced sun (The seal of the KKK, See below) and engraved crossed cannons on the other face.
Vigan is a city in Ilocos region in West Luzon and was an important point in the Filipino revolution.
Water Buffalo horn grip with brass mounts. Leather scabbard with chase brass mounts
Blade 12 inches. Total 17 1/2. Very good condition
The KKK is the acronym of “Kataas-taasang, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan”, or shortly “Katipunan”, the movement that led the Filipino revolution
