Silver Mounted Turkish Yataghan
Yataghan Sword
Origin: Balkan
Date: 1855

This fine Yataghan sword is from the Ottoman Empire. Finely forged blade 21 inches long, slightly down curving, very richly decorated with silver inlay and dated to 1272 (1855 in the Gregorian calendar). The massive grips are cut and carved from walrus tusks with big ears. Gilded copper grip strap set with large ribbed corals and the bolsters are also gilded copper and decorated with filigree work. The scabbard is heavy silver, very finely chased. Total length 31 inches. The size and shape of the grips suggest a Balkan origin. Very good condition. Small repair at the tip of the scabbard.
