Powder Horn of the Toba Batak – Sumatra

The Toba Batak people from Sumatra use a horn container to hold the powder for firearms. Made from buffalo horn and beautifully carved. The openings to fill and to extract powder are held in place with wooden pegs. local name for the flask is Parpanggalahan.
The flask offered here is of a classical form and decoration. made from Buffalo horn. Length 6 inches. Good condition.
A similar flask is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art NY Accession Number: 1988.143.139
