Origin: Balkan, may be Albania
Date: mid - late 19 C.

Ottoman Khanjar daggers are found all over the region but especially in the Balkan on the western borders of the empire. All have some similarities but differs in size, shape, materials and decorations.
The Khanjar offered here is late 19 C., of classical shape but of larger and wider size than usual. Double edged blade with a central rib. Very big I shaped handle carved from a single massive piece of walrus tusk. Chased silver scabbard.
Blade 13 1/2 inches (34 cm). Total length 22 inches (42 cm). Handle width 3 1/2 inches (9 cm). The very wide handle suggest it was carved from a very large tusk. Very good condition. The tip of the scabbard is later. Large and well made 19 C. khanjar
