The “Korambi” Also known as “Korambit” and/or “Lawi Ayam” is a crescent shaped knife with heavy blade and short handle that continue the curvature of the blade. It Common in Sumatra but also found in Java and Sulawesi.
It is commonly known that the Korambi is a small knife 6-8 inches (15 – 20 cm) long with a slender single edge blade. It is therefore quite surprising to see a “Monstrous” Kormabi like the one offered here. A massive dual edge curved blade forged from laminated steel. Heavy brass bolster. Horn handle with styled bird pommel. Wood scabbard with finely carved mouth.
Blade 8 inches. Total length 11 1/2 inches. Very good condition, Authentic and unusual. Sumatra, 19 C.
