Good Authentic Bedouin Sword

15557 Category:

Origin: Middle East, may be Palestinian.

Date: Late 19C. Blade, Mid 20C. mounts

Swords used by Bedouins of the near east employed every available blade. Mostly European made saber blade, reminding  Shashqa blades. But we have seen Bedouin swords with secondary used Yataghan blades and  even reused Kilij blades. The common handle are square with down pointing pommel and cross guard.

The Bedouin sword offered here is of classical shape and dimensions. It is not a quality sword but a common one very popular between the Bedouin tribes of the Middle east. Blade of this sword is early, most probably German trade blade – many of which were traded in the area as from the end of the 19 C. Curved and single edged with triple fullers. Horn grips. The grips as well as the scabbard are bound with later Aluminum sheet, probably removed from a salvaged military aircraft right after the second world war. The metal cover of the grips and the scabbard are engraved in a typical Bedouin style.

Blade 31 1/2 inches (80 cm). Total length 38 Inches (96 cm). Good condition. Lightly dented spots on the scabbardץ Hanging rings missing. Authentic sword. Old 19C. blade. Mid 20C. metal covers.  Probably of Palestinian Bedouin origin.
