Not exactly a blade weapon but an excellent and authentic exemplar of fine Persian steel work.
Watered steel (Wootz) was highly regarded in the Persian and Indian cultures for its strength and flexibility, and even more for its beauty, hence it was used not only for blades but also in many other artifacts: Helmets, shields, powder flask and a bit surprisingly for this finely executed small box, forged entirely from high quality watered steel . It is made to hold a Quran book. Hinged top with lock and two decorative side loops for a carrying rope.
4 1/2 X 3 1/2 inches 7/8 inches thick. (11 X 8 X 2 cm). Very good condition
