Fine Whole Silver Assib Jambiya Dagger in the Abdi Style

The endless variety of styles and shapes of the Yemenite Jambiya dagger  invites also some outstanding and unusual finds like this Assib Jambiya,  with an outstanding heavy silver scabbard and leather covered handle.  It is probably coming from the Hadramouth region in South Yemen.

The name Abdi is given to many styles with the whole silver scabbards and high raising scabbard end with large Thum (Garlic) tip. This style comes to a very fine expression in the Jambiya offered here.  Heavy silver scabbard with long curved uprising silver tip richly decorated with granulation work. horn hilt covered with leather all around (Very unusual), mounted with  silver strips and twisted silver wire.

Well made blade with a central rib 8 1/2 inches long 2 1/2 inches wide. Total length 13 1/2  inches. Weight of the silver scabbard only is 800 Grams. Very good condition. Minor repairs on the handle. The leather cover on the backside is later.
