Fine Bugis Keris Dagger
Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
Date: mid 20 C.

Bugis (Buginese) people are the biggest ethnic group from Sulawesi (Celebes) Island. They carry a very typical Keris dagger: Rather short with massive blade, scabbard with somewhat square lines and a pistol grip handle. Sometimes the handle is of Sumatra style like the case here.
This fine Bugis Keris Dagger is late, mid 20C. but very well made and decorated. It has a straight but slightly inclined blade with a fine clear pamor structure. Very finely carved black horn grip with brass mendak. Nicely made Buginese wood scabbard with black wood Warangka and black wood scabbard tip. The scabbard is partrially covered with chased silver and brass wide bands.
blade 14 inches long, Total Length 19 inches. Very good condition.
