Fine and very Large Georgian Drinking Horn

Date: Second half of the 19 C.

Not exactly a weapon but a very fine example of Georgian decorative arts. This drinking horn is late 19C. very large in size 32 inches long (compared to the 10-12 inches long of the more common ones). It is mounted with fine silver top and silver finial in the shape of a bird head with a very long beak, set with turquoise stones  eyes. All silver parts are very finely nielloed. A long narrow silver chain connects the beak and  the horn mouth.

The mouth silver band is also engraved with a part of a Georgian phrase that reads:

Fill me with wine and I will fill you with happiness. Did you drink? For your health.

Total length 34 inches (84 cm). WEight 1.6 Kg. Very good condition. Solder repair on the beak.
