Of all fine Watered steel (wootz)   Blades those with the Kirk Narduban pattern are most sought after by collectors. The pattern  is characterized by a series of lines mechanically created and  equally spaced  in the watered pattern,  forming a shape of a ladder. Hence this pattern is also known in the collectors world as  Ladder pattern or Ladder of the prophet.

Persian Shamshir sword with 18 C. deeply curved blade of fine high contrast waterred steel blade in the Kirk Narduban pattern.  Elephant ivory grips, deeply finely etched and  gilded steel cross guard and pommel cap. Leather covered (later?) wood scabbard with gilded etched steel belt carrying bands.

Blade  33 1/2 inches total length 39 inches. Very good condition. some of the gilding is worn. Very fine and rare item.
