Of all fine Watered steel (wootz) Blades those with the Kirk Narduban pattern are most sought after by collectors. The pattern is characterized by a series of lines mechanically created and equally spaced in the watered pattern, forming a shape of a ladder. Hence this pattern is also known in the collectors world as Ladder pattern or Ladder of the prophet.
The Shamshir sword offered here is a classical 19 C. Persian Shamshir sword with 18 C. deeply curved blade of fine high contrast waterred steel blade in the Kirk Narduban pattern. Elephant ivory grips, deeply finely etched and gilded steel cross guard and pommel cap. Leather covered (later?) wood scabbard with gilded etched steel belt carrying bands.
Blade 33 1/2 inches total length 39 inches. Very good condition. some of the gilding is worn. Very fine and rare item.
