Early Omani Khanjar with R Horn Hilt

All  Omani Khanjars has  a similar shape:  “L” shaped scabbard and the twisted wires belt attachment I shaped grip from variety of materials. The scabbard some times are decorated with embroidered silver strips and silver wires. The earlier and better exemplars comes with Rhino horn handles.

The exemplar exhibited here has a curved and dual edge blade with a central rib. The hilt is rhino horn.  The 7 ringer scabbard is covered with leather and silver plate and mounted with filigree silver locket and chape. partially gilded. The back side of the scabbard is covered with the original leather cover. This Khanjar comes with its original heavy leather belt entirely embroidered with silver strips.

Blade 7 inches long. Total length is 12 inches. Good condition. Several losses to the silver strips on the belt. Authentic and original Khanjar.
