A Massive Sundang / Moro Kris Sword
Origin: Mindanao - Philippines
Date: Early 20C.

Sundang swords, sometimes referred to as Kalis, or Moro sword are most commonly found in Mindanao, Philippines but are also spread around from Malaya in the west to Moro Land in the east. All with small variations that make exact identification not easy. The Moro Sundang swords are usually larger and heavier than their Malay sisters as the case may be in the sword offered here.
The 19C Sundang sword offered here has a massive straight blade of somewhat unusual forging. Folded at the tip and heat hardened on the edges. This leaves the core of lighter and the edges of darker shade. One silver steel clamp hold the blade in position. Classical ivory cockatoo style pommel with the grip bound with threads. Whole wood scabbard that fits very well to the blade.
Blade 21 inches. Total length 27 inches. Very Good condition. very light blackened spots on the blade. The tip of the pommel is restored. A heavy, authentic and impressive sword.
