A Fine Yali Hilted Presentation Saber, Calcutta India

A fine presentation sword. Curved single edged blade finely etched with scrolling foliage,  stands of arms, crowned VRI cypher and maker’s panel and Royal arms at the forte. Gilded handle profusely chiseled  with scrolling foliage, Yali head pommel and  cross guard tips. Scabbard covered with dark blue velvet and mounted with chased and gilded carrying rings bands and long chape.

Blade 32 1/2 inches. Total length 38 inches. Very good plus condition. Highly polished blade and scabbard mounts.

This sword was probably made by Rodda of Calcutta as a gift for distribution at the Delhi Durbar of 1877
