The  “PIHA KAHETTA” knife, the traditional knife of the Sinhalese from Sri-Lanka (Ceylon) basically is not changed in the recent centuries. It comes in variety of dimensions, materials and quality. Heavy down curving blade, not necessarily very functional. Carved horn or ivory or metal handle and highly decorated blade with  variety of metal inserts. Size vary from 5 to 16 inches (13-55 cm).

This fine  and large “PIHA KAHETTA” knife is an  old classical examples with  a single edged heavy  down curving fullered blade with steel bolsters inlaid with brass wires. Fullered below the ridged spine and engraved brass inserts in the fuller. The grips are beautifully carved I   with good age patina, set with chiseled and chased silver pommel cover. Original carved wood scabbard with copper locket.

Blade 9 inches (23 cm). Total length is 13 1/2  inches (34 cm). Very good condition. A fine piece in very good condition. A genuine and rare 18 C. Piha Kaetta.
