Fine Shamshir sword with Crucible Steel Blade (Wootz)

Shamshir swords with quality blades and correct blade shapes justify its use as the  main battle sword of the Persian armies during centuries. Deeply curved, relatively heavy top quality forged blades, wide cross guards and pistol grip handles characterize these swords and justify their legendary nickname.

The shamshir offered here is a good example of these quality swords. Heavy deeply curved blade with wedge cross section forged from very good crucible steel (Wootz) showing a good homogenous high contrast pattern. Steel cross guard with pierced langets. I grips and steel grip strap and pommel tip, both bound with twisted silver wire.

Blade 32 inches (83 cm) long. Total length 37 inches (94 cm) long. Very good condition. Solid blade and handle. Minor pitted spots on both faces and very lightly corroded spots. No scabbard. Very good late 18 C, battle sword
