Fine Yemenite Thouma Jambiya Dagger

The Thouma Yemenite Jambiya is worn by the highest rank people in the Yemenite society: Imams, Judges, Scholars and other aristocratic people. The Thouma daggers are therefore made by leading silversmiths and are rich in decorations. The Thouma is characterized by the wide blades, large I shaped handle and wide belt with silver attachments.

The exemplar shown below is early and of very good quality.  Wide Solid blade with a central rib. The handle is dark horn decorated with steel nails and mounted with imitation brass coins. The scabbard is heavy silver with fine granulation work on the entire scabbard. This Jambiya comes with its original wide fabric belt    with silver ibzim (False buckle), hirz (amulet container) and 7 Zahrah (silver rosettes) connected with a silver chain. All finely crafted filigree work en-suit with the scabbard silver mount and with good age patina.  

Blade length 9 inches (23 cm), 3 inches wide. Double edged and with a central rib. Total length of belt 34 inches. Very good condition. Authentic early 20 C. Thouma Jambiya dagger complete with belt and all accessories.
