Description

The Dutch East Company V.O.C (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie) was very active in and around Indonesia for almost 200 years (1602 – 1799). They employed many Europeans, traders and warriors and supplied them with swords and other blades.

This Keris sword is not a fighting sword. It is a display sword marked with the famous V.O.C mark and dated to (1)697, the midst of the company operations in Indonesia. Made entirely of copper in the style of long Sumatra keris and finely engraved.

Length 27 ½ inches (70 cm). Good condition to age. Minor bents and dents on the blade and lightly worn marks. Considering copper is a very soft material these small defects are less than expected at this age.

Provenance: Old UK private collection of tribal weapons. Marked with catalog number 73-201
