Early Omani Khanjar with R Horn Hilt

All Omani Khanjars has a similar shape:  "L" shaped scabbard and the twisted wires belt attachment I shaped grip from variety of materials. The scabbard some times are decorated with embroidered silver strips and or twisted silver wires. The earlier and better exemplars come with Rhino horn handles.

The heavy khanjar exhibited here is a fine exemplar with a 19 C. blade, curved and dual edge with a shallow central rib. The blade is decorated with engraved lines of wavy pattern on its entire length on both faces.  The hilt is a massive piece of R horn mounted with a silver collar and decorated on its front face with silver lines in a granulated pattern. The 2 rings scabbard is covered with silver chape and embroidered with silver wires in a geometric pattern. Chased silver locket and chape. The back side of the scabbard is covered with the original fabric cover. This Khanjar comes with its heavy fabric belt embroidered with red and silvered color threads and a silver buckle.

Blade 7 inches (18 cm) long. Total length is 12 1/2 inches (32 cm). Belt length (fully extended) 34 inches (86 cm). Very good condition. Good age patina on all parts and on the horn handle. Authentic and original Khanjar. Mid 20 C. with early 19 C. blade
