Traditional Yemeni Jewish Bridal Headdress (Karkush)

Magnificent Jewish Yemeni bridal headdress Karkush made from silk brocade cotton and velvet decorated with silver beads and small |Ottoman silver coins. The sides of the headdress are adorned with  24, 18 C. gilded silver Maria Theresa Thaler (several are not gilded). The top of the headdress is mounted with gilded silver filagree and pierced plaques. Along the front edge are silver chain, braided silver threads, bands of pearls and a  chain of small silver pendants.

Late 19 C. Exceptional artistic workmanship of Yemenite Jewish silversmiths.
