A silver overlaid copper alloy (Cairo ware) footed box (Sunduq)
Description
A Premium Syrian work of silver on brass footed box made by a Jewish craftsman and signed Eliahou Zagha. Bold calligraphy script arranged within panels and medallions on a field profusely decorated with tendrils and palmettes. Hinged lid with a central rondel ornate with a mosque. The lid opens to reveal a compartmented interior engraved with geometric designs and veneered with mother of pearl.
Dimensions: 8 x 12 x 12 inches (20 x 29.5 x 29.5 cm) Weight. Next to perfect condition.
