Khanjar daggers are found all over the region. From the Balkan on the western borders, further east to the borders with Persia and south to the Arab peninsula. All have similarities but differs in size, shape materials and decorations.
The Khanjar offered here is a good quality version. Curved, double edged blade forged from good high carbon steel. I shaped silver handle and whole silver scabbard both very finely chased and decorated in a classical Iraqi style characterized by many small silver pieces reminding a human body. The grip is decorated with engraved silver strip and bound with a filigree silver belt with a small turquoise stone.
The khanjar decoration elements are of clear Turkish / Kurdish / Iraqi influence.
Blade 9 inches (22 cm). Total length 21 inches (54 cm). Very good condition.
It should be noted that many of similar large Iraqi khanjars employ a relatively short blade 9-10 inches (23-25 cm) long, of varying quality which are readily available on the market, mounted into a considerably longer scabbard.
An impressive authentic 19 C. exemplar.
