Java Keris with Rare Banjarmasin Keris Hilt

From Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan comes these typical keris hilts: Gold plated brass set with clear stones, probably roughly cut diamonds (Intans). Such hilts are found on variety of keris daggers from surrounding regions.

The fine Banjarmasin hilt offered here is mounted on a massive blade forged from good pamor steel. Wood scabbard of classical Java style very delicately chased in brass.

Blade 13 ½ inches (34 cm). Total length 18 ½ inches (47 cm). Very good condition. Perfect fit of the blade to the scabbard mouth.  Minor blackened spots on the blade. Very few stones are missing from the handle.
