Very Good Yemenite Thouma Jambiya Dagger

The Yemenite Jambiya style Thouma is worn by the highest ranking people in the Yemenite society: Imams, Judges, Scholars and other aristocratic people.  The Thouma daggers are therefore made by leading silversmiths and are rich in decorations. The Thouma is characterized by the wide blades, large I shaped handle and wide belt with silver attachments.

The exemplar shown below is of typical style with very fine filigree worked scabbard. Double edged blade with a central rib. The handle is dark horn decorated with steel nails and mounted with brass rondels. This Jambiya comes with its original wide belt with silver ibzim (False buckle) of finely crafted filigree work en-suit with the scabbard silver mount.   

 Blade is 9 1/2 inches (24 cm) long and 2 ½ (8 cm) wide. Total length of belt 41 inches (104 cm). Very good condition. A typical very good Thuma Jambiya, mid 20 C.
