Enameling of metal artifact is an ancient decoration technique in the east since early times. Both Iranian and Ottoman cultures, for many centuries, showed special passion for the saturated but lucent colors that the enamel medium affords.
The Khanjar offered here is a wonderful example. Fine blade with wavy edges, central rib and Koftgari gold inlay decoration at the blade forte and along the edges. Classical I shaped handle. The handle and the scabbard are finely and lavishly enameled in lucent light and dark blue pink green and gold colors with black touches.
Blade length 12 inches (31 cm) Total length 18 1/2 inches (47 cm). Very good condition. Pitted spots on the tip of the blade which does not diminish from the beauty of this dagger. Very minor dents on the handle. Small areas of repairs to the enamel.
Extremely fine and colorful dagger. Mid - late 19 C.
