African Pole Arm / Axe, Possibly Tanzania or Uganda

The exact origin and use of this axe / Pole arm is a bit mysterious. Possibly African. The binding of the entire haft with spiral iron strip as well ae the iron mounts at the haft ends are of clear African flavor.  Possibly similar agricultural artifacts from Tanzania (See below).

Short and massive blade with a central incised ridge. Long wood haft bound with iron strip. Blade length 13 inches (33 cm). Total length 31 ½ inches (80 cm). Very good condition. Authentic early 20C. article.

For a slightly similar pole arms with a plain wood haft see africanarms web site https://africanarms.com/gallery.html?wassiba-axe-89-cm
