16 and 17 C. Ottoman Khanjars (Jambiya) daggers are quite scarce and characterized by their rather small size, slightly curved good blade of flat lentil cross section with added decoration and wood or ivory or stone handles. Similar khanjars were captured from the Ottoman army at the battle of Vienna 1683 and the failure of the Ottoman army to conquer the city.
This small dagger is 17C. curved and double edge blade forged from fine crucible steel (Wootz) with high contrast pattern. I shaped Walrus I grip. Very finely chased scabbard with floral pattern.
Bade 6 1/2 inches (16 cm). Total length 12 1/2 inches (32 cm). Very good plus condition. Early, rare and authentic Ottoman khanjar.
