Exceptional keris dagger from Sumatra. Small size but of exceptional construction and materials. Straight narrow blade reminds in a way the blades of the longer Penjang kris blade. The Mendak is made of Silver. Handle of classical Sumatra shape probably carved from Hippo tusk. The Scabbard is carved from a single piece of black wood, (may be ebony) and bound with two wide silver bands. The wrangka is carved from water buffalo black horn.
Blade 12 1/2 inches (31 cm). Total length16 1/2 inches (42cm). Very good condition. Very small loss to the silver bands.
