The sword known as "Khayber Sword" is named after the famous mountain pass between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Though it is found all around: India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and also the bordering countries of Central Asia. The Khayber sword comes in different sizes, from large knife size to huge 40 plus inches blades. Very similar shape to all: Single edged with heavy triangular blade and strong T spine. The better blade will be forged from Watered steel or pattern welded steel. The grips will come with a variety of materials. Mostly wood, horn, bone, ivory or jade.
The very fine exemplar of a long Khyber sword offered here is coming from North India with the scabbard mounts probably from Hyderabad. The heavy blade is forged from steel. most probably pattern welded steel. Pronounced T spine. I grips with silver bolsters and grip strap. Original wood scabbard covered with green velvet fabric and beautiful pierced silver locket and chape. The chape tip with spiral grooves may suggest the Hyderabad origin.
Blade length 21 1/2 inches (55 cm). blade width 2 inches (5 cm). Total length 28 inches (71 cm). Very good condition. Small I repair at the pommel. Complete original and authentic sword.
