Description

The so called Joulba Jambiya daggers are coming from the Tihama region in Western Yemen, on the shores of the red sea. The influence of the long daggers from Asir and Gizan to the North, Partially in Saudi Arabia, is clearly seen in the similar and less curved Joulba Jambiya daggers.

The Joulba dagger offered here is early 20 C. with classical very good double edge blade with pronounced central rib. Whole silver handle with extended pommel sides and pyramidal shaped silver protrusions. Very fine heavy whole silver scabbard with good filigree work.  Original back cover leather.

Blade 7 1/2 inches (20 cm). Total length 15 1/2 inches (40 cm). Weight 615 Grams. Very good condition. Minor blackened and lightly pitted spots on the blade.

This type of handle is attributed to Jazan, a border city between Saudi Arabia and Yemen in the Tihama.
