Early Omani Khanjar with R Horn Hilt

All Omani Khanjars has a similar shape:  "L" shaped scabbard and the twisted wires belt attachment I shaped grip from variety of materials. The scabbard some times are decorated with embroidered silver strips and or twisted silver wires. The earlier and better exemplars comes with Rhino horn handles.

The heavy khanjar exhibited here is an early exemplar. A curved and dual edge blade with a central rib. The hilt is R horn mounted with a silver collar.   The 4 rings scabbard is covered with silver sheet and twisted silver wires, and mounted with chased silver locket and chape. The back side of the scabbard is covered with the original leather cover. This Khanjar comes with its heavy fabric belt embroidered with silver wires and silver strips.

Blade 7 inches (18 cm) long. Total length is 12 1/2 inches (32 cm). Very good condition. Good age patina on all parts and on the horn handle. Authentic and original Khanjar. Very early 20 C.
