Beja Dagger with Large X shaped Handle

The Beja are a group of East African Nomadic Tribes inhabit the red sea shores in Sudan Eritrea and Ethiopia. The Beja comprise several tribes including the Hadendoa and Beni Amer. All Beja men carry a short dagger characterize by the large X shaped handle carved from African Black wood. Blades and decorations take several shapes and style. These daggers are sometimes referred to as Hadendoa Daggers or Beni Amer Daggers.

The Beja dagger offered here is of a classical form with a curved dual edge well forged blade. Large X shaped blackwood handle decorated with silver “stars and grip bound with silver wire. Tooled leather sheath.

Blade 8 ½ inches (22 cm). Total length 14 inches (36 cm). Very good condition.
