Description

The village of Tjikeoreh, (Chikorea, in the modern Indonesian spelling) on the island of Java was well known for producing quality edged weapons and was chosen by a Dutch Colonial to craft custom swords. Swords made in this village show a beautiful mixture of European style hunting swords together with Indonesian materials and decoration. Blades are well constructed. Handles and scabbard vary between strictly European style hunting sword and local style Indonesia short sword, known also as Golok. Most of the blades made in Tjikeroeh were made in the very early 20th C. Blades are marked with the village name (In various spellings) and sometimes dated.

The Golok sword offered here has a blade of classical shape and decoration, marked TJIKOEROEH 6. 6. 1914. The wood grip is finely carved with a bird shaped pommel. Wood Scabbard with white metal bands and a carved wood belt hanging loop.

Blade 14 inches (36 cm) long. Total length 22 inches (56 cm). Very good condition. Very minor split of wood on the scabbard. Authentic early 20 C. sword.
