18 C. Ankus (Elephant Goad) Ivory and Silver, India - 14650 - New
This is an Indian ANKUS, (Elephant Goad), used by the Indian to guide their elephants. Although it is not a pure weapon, it is always shown in Museum and private collection in connection to Indian arms and armor. It also finds extended use as a ceremonial item displayed in parades and other important events. This is a fine exemplar, late 18 C, small size but of a fine quality. The 3 inches top steel blade and 4 inches hook shaped blade are solid silver (Low silver). The handle is solid ivory. Total length 13 inches. Very good plus condition. Very good age patina on the ivory. A fine piece.
