17 C. Chillanum Dagger - India - 14163
Up for sale is this very early and rare form of Indian Dagger, from a class of daggers known as Chillanum . Daggers in this class may take various shapes. This one is probably 17 C., Central or South India, with heavy re-curving blade 10 inches long with a central rib. A massive ivory handle cut from an hippopotamus tusk with a silver collar. Original wood scabbard painted red and gold with engraved silver tip. Total length l6 inches. Very good condition to age. Nice dip color age patina on the handle with few age cracks, but holds very solid. Losses to the scabbard, open seams and worn color. A very impressive dagger.
